‘Passion: The New Orleans Project’ Features Tons of Covers

By Brian Ives

If you’re the type of person who has always thought that Creed‘s “With Arms Wide Open” should really be used to tell the tale of Jesus Christ, then brothers and sisters, today’s your lucky day. For it has come to pass; said song will be performed by Jencarlos Canela in the live musical performance of Passion, which will air on Fox this Sunday at 8 pm ET.

And if you can’t wait that long to hear it, you’re in luck: the soundtrack album is out today. And that  soundtrack is filled with some pretty unlikely covers. Here’s the track list:

Gospel singer Yolanda Adams covers “When Love Takes Over,” by David Guetta and Kelly Rowland

Trisha Yearwood sings “My Love is Your Love,” the Whitney Houston song that Wyclef Jean wrote (and produced) for her; she also covers “Hands” by Jewel“I Won’t Give Up” by Jason Mraz, Lifehouse’s “Broken” and the Rogers and Hammerstein classic “You’ll Never Walk Alone” (from Carousel).

Jencarlos Canela and Prince Royce cover Phillip Phillips‘ “Home”

Chris Daughtry sings Evanescence‘s “Bring Me To Life” and Katy Perry‘s “Unconditionally” as well as the aforementioned Creed song “With Arms Wide Open.”

Jencarlos Canela sings Train‘s “Calling All Angels”

Jencarlos Canela and Chris Daughtry sing  Imagine Dragons‘ “Demons”

Prince Royce covers Hoobastank’s “The Reason”

Seal and Jencarlos Canela cover Tina Turner‘s “We Don’t Need Another Hero”

Seal also covers Tears for Fears’ “Mad World”
