It’s one of my favorite times of the year, not only because of Christmas and the start of a brand new year, but because I get the opportunity to pick my 10 favorite country songs of the year. Picking my top 10 is fun, but somewhat frustrating at the same time. Why? Because I can only pick 10…it’s not easy! Let me put it into perspective for you, picking just 10 songs is kind of like having 20 gifts under the tree, but only being able to open 10. It’s like having a 24 pack of your favorite beer in the fridge, but only being able to drink 10. Yes, I know these analogies are bad, thankfully my top 10 list isn’t! Enjoy!
10) Colt Ford & Jason Aldean – Drivin’ Around Song
I don’t think there’s a Colt Ford song that I don’t crank up and sing along to when it comes on. This is one of my favorites and for good reason. Colt Ford + Jason Aldean = Greatness!!
9) Keith Urban – Somewhere In My Car
Keith is seriously the nicest guy in showbiz! Every time I see him he’s got a smile and is able to make you laugh. Take for example this past April in Las Vegas when Kenny Jay and I ran into him at the ACM Awards.
8) Sam Hunt – Leave The Night On
I think he’s one of the most talented new artists of 2014. If you like this song, you’ll LOVE the rest of the songs on his debut album called, “Montevallo”. Watch Sam take it to the next level in 2015 and become one of the hottest new artists in the format.
7) Billy Currington – We Are Tonight
This is my jam! I remember being at the Pourhouse in Minneapolis waiting for Chase Rice to take the stage at one of our shows. This song came on and EVERYONE, I mean everyone was singing it at the top of their lungs.
6) Eric Church – Give Me Back My Hometown
There’s a reason his nickname is “The Chief”. There aren’t many people that can entertain an arena better than this guy. The lyrics in this song land it at #6 for me. Love him!
5) Thomas Rhett – Get Me Some Of That
This song was the most requested AND played in 2014 on BUZ’N. Plus I don’t think there’s a single lady in the Twin Cities that doesn’t like it.
4) Dustin Lynch – Where It’s At
He has everything going for him, good looks, good voice, the cowboy hat AND the yup, yup song that most people get stuck in their heads. The lyrics in the monster hit gave Dustin his first ever #1 song.
3) Luke Bryan – Play It Again
This was probably one of the best concerts in all of 2014, it also gave us one of the funniest concert moments of the year. If you haven’t seen it yet, watch Luke and his microphone fail at the Excel Energy Center.
1) Lee Brice – I Don’t Dance
This is Lee’s wedding song for his wife Sara. Just so you know Lee isn’t a big dancer, but says he’ll do anything when she’s around. So. Freakin’. Sweet. Yes, I just said that! Real men have no problem expressing their feelings from time to time, just ask Lee!
Songs that were close…
Chase Rice – Ready Set Roll
I saw Chase perform twice in 2014, at the Pourhouse and Skyway Theater. Both shows were epic! He was born to entertain and will be big in the years to come!
Cole Swindell – Hope You Get Lonely Tonight
True story: I was in Vegas with my fiancé at the ACM Awards in April. I interviewed Cole a few hours before seeing him sitting at the bar of a restaurant at the MGM Grand. I’m not one to invade someone’s personal space in these situations, so we just sat at our table and enjoyed our drinks and dinner. About an hour later as he got up to leave he came over to our table. He said, “I just wanted to thank you and BUZ’N again for supporting me and playing my music.” #ClassAct #Humble
Florida Georgia Line – Dirt
The video for this song is awesome!! It’s a great story and a well written song. If you ever get the chance to see FGL live, DO IT!! You won’t be disappointed.
BONUS: Florida Georgia Line – I’m In A Hurry
Just watch! Enough said!!
Jason Aldean – When She Says Baby
This was the best concert I attended in 2014. Jason Aldean played with Florida Georgia Line and Tyler Farr on a very cold January night in 2014. This concert was LOUD, exactly the way Jason likes to play his guitar. I can’t wait to see him along with Kenny Chesney at Target Field in Minneapolis this July.
Is there a song that I missed on my list? Do you agree or disagree with any of them? If so, tell me!! I look forward to another strong year for country music in 2015. Thanks for listening and making BUZ’N@102.9 the Twin Cities #1 Country Station!
