George Strait’s Final ‘Cowboy Rides Away’ Concert Breaks Attendance Record

By Kurt Wolff

George Strait aimed to end his concert-tour career on a high note. And this past weekend he did just that.

On Saturday (June 7) at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Tex., the current ACM Entertainer of the Year performed the final show on his two-year Cowboy Rides Away Tour. He was joined by 104,793 fans for the three-hour concert, and that number wound up the North American indoor concert attendance record. The previous record had been set by the Rolling Stones at the Louisiana Superdome in 1981.

Strait’s set included 40 songs from his long career, including nearly two dozen of his 60 No. 1 hits (see the full set list below). He was joined that evening, too, by a number of special guests including Kenny Chesney, Jason Aldean, Miranda Lambert, Sheryl Crow, Vince Gill, Alan Jackson, Faith Hill, Martina McBride and Eric Church. Long-running Texas western-swing band Asleep at the Wheel opened the show.
