When he and a group of friends were robbed at gunpoint earlier this month, Scotty McCreery experienced one of the scariest moments of his life.

“It definitely puts your life in perspective when you’re staring down the barrel of a pistol,” McCreery told USA Today.

The robbery took place early in the morning of May 5 at an apartment complex in Raleigh, N.C. McCreery was visiting friends at the apartment, which is close to North Carolina State University, where the American Idol winner is a sophomore. Three armed men entered the apartment and took wallets, cash and electronic items. Fortunately no one was hurt.
