Chris Young Launch

In honor of his brand-new album A.M., which just hit stores this week, country singer Chris Young is our latest Launch artist.

A.M. is the fourth studio album from Young, a Tennessee native who’s been a regular at the top of the country charts thanks to songs like “Tomorrow,” “Voices,” and “The Man I Want To Be.”

Young’s latest single is “Aw Naw,” a big, boisterous, good-natured party song cowritten by Young, Chris DeStefano and Ashley Gorley. It’s the first single from A.M., and it’s been steadily climbing the charts since it was first released this past May. Watch the video:

“It’s just a slang way of saying, ‘Oh, hell no,’” Young explained about the song’s title. He said that, among the three cowriters, it was Gorley who first brought up the term. “He goes, ‘Aw naw!’ And it was like, ‘How do you spell that?’”

Young cowrote six of the 11 songs on A.M., including the album’s title track. “There’s a lot of fun on this album and that’s why I wanted to call the album A.M.,” said Young. “Like the song says, ‘the whole world’s asleep but we’re wide awake in the A.M.’”

While A.M. may be an album of many moods–from the rowdy title track to the power ballad “Lighters in the Air” and the love ballad “Goodbye”–Young says he always keeps at the forefront of his mind what he calls his “core principle.”

As he explains it, “I’m never going to lose the acoustic guitar and the steel and the story in the song. No one’s going to confuse my records with being outside of the genre. Will I push some boundaries for some people? Hopefully. But I’m a country singer.”
