"I was just making music, and I was determined that was going to be my career."

His past two singles from his 2013 album How Country Feels have each gone to No. 1. Now he’s hoping to repeat those successes with his new single, “Goodnight Kiss” (hear it below).

Lucky for Houser things are working out, as music wasn’t just his best career choice, it was his only choice. In an interview with Radio.comearlier this year, he explained that he never really had a Plan B.

“The thing that kept me pursuing music was that’s the only thing I ever really cared about. That’s what I love. There was never a Plan B for me,” he said. “I was bound and determined that’s what I was going to do. I felt like this was what I was supposed to do.”

For Houser, there was no quitting. He said he never once thought of doing anything else.

“You can make music and not be commercially successful and be happy. I was just making music, and I was determined that was going to be my career,” he said. “I don’t know how else to explain it then this is what I do.”

To Houser, country music embodies the simple life and values that he grew up with.

“The music definitely has a lot of organic property. Real people playing real instruments, singing real songs about real life. I think that’s what defines country music to me,” he said.

One of those real songs is Houser’s previous hit “Runnin’ Outta Moonlight,” a song he said grabbed him from the very start.

“I’ve had people actually say, ‘You know, I’ve had this album for a week now and I haven’t gotten past the first song.’ They love that song and I do, too.”

The second single from his album How Country Feels, Houser explained how “Runnin’ Outta Moonlight” is a fun track, and it was important to convey this to country fans.

“Everywhere you turn, there is something to depress you going on,” he said. “A lot of people lean on music to lift their spirits. That’s what the power of a song does,” he said. “I look to songs like that right now to uplift me, and I think that’s what other people are doing.”

Houser’s new single “Goodnight Kiss” is bound to do the same. Watch the lyric video below:
