Kenny Chesney has been a dominant presence on the Billboard 200 album chart, grabbing six No. 1 albums between 2002 and 2010 and establishing himself as one of the top-selling country artists in America. That said, 2012′s Gold-certified Welcome to the Fishbowl managed No. 2 on the chart, leading one to wonder if Chesney’s reign was coming to an end.

Turns out he’s still doing just fine. Life on a Rock, Chesney’s 16th studio album, tops the Billboard 200 this week with 153,000 copies sold, according to data from Nielsen SoundScan.

It’s Chesney’s seventh No. 1 on the chart, dating back to 2002′s No Shoes, No Shirt, No ProblemsLife on a Rock also becomes the singer’s ninth-straight No. 1 album on the US Country Albums chart.

His seven chart-toppers on the main albums chart lands him near another record. Only Garth Brooks has more No. 1 albums on theBillboard 200, with eight such records between 1991 and 2001.

To be sure, Chesney’s No. 1 debut isn’t a phenomenal sales week for the country artist. Life on a Rock‘s 153,000 copies sold is his lowest-selling new album since 1999′s Everywhere We Go, which logged about 30,000 first-week sales.

Chesney’s new album has been spurned on by lead single “Pirate Flag,” which has peaked so far at No. 9 on the “Hot Country Songs” chart.

He’s the fourth country act to attain a No. 1 album in 2013, following Taylor Swift, Gary Allan and Luke Bryan.

Last week’s No. 1, Michael Buble‘s To Be Loved, drops to No. 2 this week with 96,000 copies moved, a 51 percent decrease from the previous week.

The only other Top 10 debut this week comes from fellow country act Randy Rogers Band. The band’s Trouble slots in at No. 9, selling 26,000 copies.

Justin Timberlake‘s The 20/20 Experience maintains its top-three standing with a No. 3 slot, having moved 68,000 albums. Fantasia‘sSide Effects of You checks out at No. 4 (36,000 copies), whileMacklemore and Ryan Lewis return to the top five, with The Heistjumping from No. 11 to No. 5 with 35,000 records sold.
