His funeral will take place on Thursday (May 2) at The Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, Tennessee. The showing will be open to the public and begins at 10 a.m. A private visitation for family, friends, and fellow performers will take place on Wednesday evening.
His wife and publicist thanked his fans and friends for their support.
“Thanks to George’s friends, fans, and loved ones for the outpouring of love at this terrible time,” Nancy Jones said. “I love you all.”
“George would have wanted his fans and friends everywhere to be able to come and pay their respects along with his family,” publicist Kirt Webster said in a press release.
Jones has been a member of the Grand Ole Opry since 1956 and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1992.
Jones passed away on Friday (April 26) at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, after being hospitalized on April 18th with a fever and irregular blood pressure. Jones was 81.
