I wouldn’t often describe my weekends as perfect, but this last weekend was just that. My parents were in town from Washington State and I took them to a rustic lake resort in the Wisconsin Northwoods. My goal was for my parents to meet and fall in love with my boyfriend’s family. Check!

My dad’s goal was to catch a big ol’ muskie, a fish we don’t have in the Pacific Northwest.

He went out on the Flambeau River with a guide who told him the weather that day wasn’t ideal and that a muskie catch is typically a 1 in 10,000 cast catch. With that in mind they set off. Apparently my dad was having a lucky day because he caught a 34″ muskie within 10 minutes! I’m pretty sure he could’ve packed up his things and headed back to Washington a happy man (luckily he didn’t).

That’s all that needed to happen to make the weekend a huge success.

There’s so much more that made it special, like the perfect weather, a skeeter bite on my face, a day spent motor-boatin’ on a pontoon and a night at one of the many rural house/bars in the Northwoods.

Not sure who to thank for making this all come together, but I am so grateful for a weekend that will forever go down in the record books as one of the best.
