Hunter Hayes To Perform With Flaming Lips During Record-Breaking 24-Hour ‘Tour’

Rock band the Flaming Lips are attempting tonight to break a world record for the most live concerts played in a 24-hour period. They begin in Memphis and will wind up, assuming all goes well, with a show in New Orleans.

Several artists are joining the band at shows along the way–including Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, Neon Indian, Grimes, Gary Clark, Jr., Phantogram, and Hunter Hayes.

Hunter will perform with the Lips at Benny’s Boom Boom Room in Hattiesburg, Mississippi on Thursday (June 28) at 6:30am CT (7:30am ET)–yes, that’s right, in the morning. Take that, Branson, Missouri–you’re not the only place in the world that has country music breakfast shows.

Also on the Hattiesburg bill is singer-songwriter Jackson Browne. Tickets to the show are, as you might imagine, sold out.

The record-breaking attempt and series of shows is “such a great concept,” Hunter told the O Music Blog. “I love how we’re sort of mixing the worlds in — this sort of old-school touring, ‘Let’s break the record.’ This sort of online presence, awareness, I love it. I’m thrilled that I get to be a part of it.”

The 24-hour Flaming Lips ‘tour’ is part of MTV’s O Music Awards, which according to the website is a “newly minted show dedicated to honoring achievements in the digital music realm.”

Fans can see the full tour schedule and watch the show, including all the performances, live on the O Music Awards website. The concert will then later be available on demand on CMT.
