Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney’s big summer stadium tour may be called Brothers of the Sun, but they’re also bringing a female force along for the ride in the form of Grace Potter. During their set as the opening act, Grace and her rock band the Nocturnals will highlight songs from their new album The Lion The Beast The Beat (out June 12).

Being on this country tour is actually a good fit, says Potter. “There’s a gravity to this record that reminds me of some epic [country] songs” a la George Jones and Loretta Lynn.

As for Potter’s expectations for Brothers of the Sun, she seems just as enamored with McGraw’s wife Faith Hill as she is with her tourmates. Potter jokes about her and Hill starting each day off by drinking lattes and doing Tracy Anderson exercise tapes, leaving the wilder antics to the tour’s male stars.

Still, Grace says she’s expecting a more down-home family vibe while on the road this time – but that’s not to say the tour’s attendees won’t be partying. In our video interview with Potter, she boldly declares her love for country fans, who really know how to have a good time. Watch below.

Potter says she and the Nocturnals have been welcomed by “open-minded” country lovers, though it certainly doesn’t hurt that she’s become Chesney’s duet partner of choice. Chesney approached Potter to sing on “You and Tequila,” his 2011 single that eventually scored GRAMMY and ACM nominations and peaked at No. 3 on Billboard’s Country Songs chart.

“I was so excited to be the Emmylou Harris in this scenario,” she says of singing alongside Chesney. She explains how the duet came together.

The Brothers of the Sun tour kicks off this Saturday (June 2) in Tampa, Florida and wraps August 25 in Foxboro, Massachusetts.
