Seven-time ACM Awards winner Keith Urban spoke with Y108’s Stoney Richards in Las Vegas leading up to this year’s ACM Awards. Urban is part of a stellar line-up of Country stars scheduled to perform during the ACM’s on Sunday.

This year, Keith will also be on a different stage shining the spotlight on someone else. He’s joined the television cast of Australia’s version of ‘The Voice’. Keith says he has a whole new respect for ‘Blake Shelton, one of the judges on the American version of ‘The Voice’. When asked if it is hard to critique another artist, Keith said “I approach it like a mix of being a record producer and an A&R guy. In a lot of ways that’s kind of what we are rolled into one. We’re trying to produce somebody. So, you trying to guide the things that are good in them and move them away from the things are a bit…just not their bag.”

Urban’s not entirely unfamiliar with the visual medium that is television and movies. After all, he’s married to movie star Nicole Kidman. But, he also has his own hand in the jar when it comes to films. He co-wrote the song ‘For You’, which is on the soundtrack for the film ‘Act Of Valor’, and he says he’s donating his portion of writing royalties and artist royalties to the Navy Seals Foundation.

Was the soundtrack Keith way of getting deeper into the film industry? -Will you be able to catch Keith on the big screen one day? Probably not any time soon, “I love writing music and maybe the film thing will be more about writing songs for films or something.” Keith added, “I love touring too much; I think I couldn’t sacrifice that time necessarily. Who knows though? Who knows?”

On a stage he’s more familiar with, Keith has been busy helping the Country Music Hall of Fame and their campaign “All For The Hall”. According to their website, ‘All For The Hall’ started “with a group of artists who agreed to donate the proceeds of a concert to the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum to help preserve the legacy of country music.”

Urban is on board again this year to help and said “We’ve done about half a million at each concert, we’ve done two concerts now. This year’s looking to be on track with that too, we sold it out pretty quick but it’s a heck of a lineup – the Hall’s been really blessed to have this kind of talent this year.”

It’s been three years since Keith Urban has brought a tour through the Steel City but he says says Pittsburgh fans need not worry – “I promise you we’ll be back in Pittsburgh. New album, new Pittsburgh”.

The ACM Awards air Sunday night at 8PM on CBS. See the full list of 2012 ACM Award nominees.
